Pencils of Promise (PoP) and Microsoft YouthSpark share a belief that all young people have promise, and that they should have the opportunity to bring that promise to life. Founded on this belief, PoP has been working to close the opportunity gap for youth in the developing world through education for nearly five years. We’ve broken ground on over 150 schools in four partner countries around the world. Within three months of completion, 100% of our schools in Ghana, Laos, Nicaragua and Guatemala are fully operational and locally owned.

We know that education and opportunity go beyond safe, sound infrastructure. So, we develop programs that create a brighter future for children worldwide. PoP is expanding interactive teacher training methodology, which has shown 30% test score increases with half of the instructional hours. Pencils of Promise students receive WASH lessons twice per month to ensure proper sanitation and hygiene and keep kids healthy. Our scholarship program rewards consistent attendance with the resources and materials that students and their families need to progress to secondary school. Without this support, over 50% of students in our partner communities don’t continue on to secondary school.

As WPC 2013 attendees, you can help raise money simply but submitting session and event evaluations! For each WPC session evaluation completed by WPC 2013 attendees, WPC will donate US$1 to PoP, and for each WPC overall event survey, WPC will donate US$5 to PoP. Every year of education a child pursues increases their lifetime income by 10%. Just US$100, or 20 completed WPC overall events surveys, provides a one year scholarship including a school uniform, a backpack filled with supplies, tuition and other school fees. You can help spark the promise of a child. Learn more at www.pencilsofpromise.org, and you can give at www.giveforyouth.org/wpc.

Thank you in advance for participating in the WPC 2013 Giving initiative!
