It’s a very human response to want to fill a need. There is always someone willing to donate time, money, and effort to help out, whether the need is to support local health charities or strengthen communities through the arts. Our job at StratusLIVE is to help charitable organizations build relationships with donors to support their mission and long-term sustainable success.
Non-profit organizations have the same needs as for-profit companies: customers (or “constituents” in the non-profit community), leads, “sales,” marketing, automation. When we started StratusLIVE seven years ago, we saw the value of using Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software to help charities with all of those needs. But constituent relationships are different than customer relationships, so we took the expertise we had in the non-profit vertical and set out to build donor-management, fundraising-management CRM software designed specifically for non-profit organizations.
What motivates a donor to give?
The other non-profit software we see in the market has traditionally been transaction-focused: what do customers buy, how often, how much do they spend? CRM for non-profits is different because “giving” can take lots of different forms, all of which are important to understanding a constituent. “Giving” includes financial gifts but can also include volunteering to help with United Way’s after-school reading programs or fostering a homeless animal for the Humane Society. We built our StratusLIVE for Fundraisers™ solution on Microsoft Dynamics CRM to give non-profits visibility into all the ways a constituent interacts with their organization.
To help our clients build those critical relationships, our solution compiles all that interaction information to determine a constituent’s “motivational interest” – what marketing campaign did she respond to? How often does he give? What events has she attended; did he sign the online petition? It’s more than just storing the “who” and “how much” of a transaction, it’s about preserving the details of those transactions in CRM. Recency, frequency, and monetary parameters are all factored in to develop predictive analysis. In short, our CRM helps donor- and financial-management professionals get a more sophisticated portrait of what prompts a giver to give.
For example, ArtsWave is the oldest and largest united arts fund in the US, and their support of local arts has helped make Cincinnati a more energized and connected community for almost 90 years. With origins stretching back to 1927, ArtsWave had several legacy systems and discrete software platforms performing lots of different functions, making the process of tracking individual constituents difficult. StratusLIVE replaced many of these disconnected point solutions with a single donor management platform. According to Kate Kennedy, Director of Individual and Leadership Giving, “StratusLIVE will help ArtsWave improve donor engagement and retention. These stronger relationships can lead to greater revenue and the opportunity for a greater impact on our community.”
Charitable organizations are always looking for ways to lower operational costs so a greater percentage of donor contributions go to their intended recipients. We designed StratusLIVE for Fundraisers CRM to create a full view of the constituent lifecycle: from first solicitation, through all transactions and interactions with the organization. Clients such as ArtsWave have a lot of individual donors; our CRM’s ability to pull all that data together and make it visible and actionable allows large organizations to be as effective and productive as possible for considerably less cost. StratusLIVE software also helps users to do their own segmentation based on the results they see – a job that might take an outside firm weeks to complete, at great expense.
At StratusLIVE, we’re excited to be building solutions that help make the world a better place. We believe our work is, at its core, about connecting people to their passions and giving them an opportunity to participate. It’s about helping charitable organizations make the best possible connections with current and potential constituents so everyone can do more.
