A skills gap is the most commonly cited barrier to digitization among CIOs and there is a growing need for IT partners with the right technical expertise.

To help ensure our partners can tap into a skilled and well-equipped workforce, Microsoft is investing in a variety of technical training, tools, and resources. Microsoft recently launched free Microsoft Azure training courses in a self-paced, interactive online learning environment, as well as announced new opportunities for Azure certifications at deep discounts. This new modern learning model is called a Massive Open Online Course, or MOOC. These self-paced courses are so much more than online videos and demos – they incorporate videos, labs, graded assessments, office hours, and more.

One partner that is already an Azure pro, helping enterprises execute their digital transformation strategies, is US-based Pivotal. Pivotal is the company behind Cloud Foundry, an open source cloud-native platform that is quickly gaining momentum with enterprise Java developers as one of the best places to run Java-based microservices.

Over the past year, we’ve collaborated with Pivotal to deliver an enterprise-proven experience for our joint customers. During that time, we’ve provided a one-click marketplace deployment to simplify getting started, and a rich Azure Service Broker that helps customers leverage Azure services such as Storage, Azure SQL Database, Service Bus, DocumentDB or Redis Cache in their Cloud Foundry applications.

Our joint solution puts strong emphasis on enterprise Java applications, as it ships with first-class support for Spring, an application framework well suited to building 12-factor apps quickly. Microsoft and Pivotal also have integrated support teams and workflows, including integrated portal experiences, cross-trained support staff, and ongoing knowledge-sharing to ensure that customers get seamless enterprise-grade support.
